From the Vicar - Easter 2015

The Cross lies at the very heart of the Christian faith, for without the cross there would be no Easter Morning, no Resurrection. We can sometimes take the cross for granted, use it for decoration, make it presentable with candles and flowers, yet the cross is not an easy object to gaze upon, but an instrument of pain and torture that has become for us a symbol of love and sacrifice.

A Church for the Future

Living and Learning – a six-week course led by Bernard Thomas and Michael Williams

Wednesday March 11^th at 7:00pm in St Mary’s Church, Denbigh

This first meeting is an exploratory one, and will be an opportunity to agree plans for a six week course which will hopefully help people begin to work together across the Deanery / Mission Area.

The six sessions are:

• Being a Pilgrim People
• Called to Discipleship
• The Church and the Kingdom
• Being Anglican
• A Missionary Church
• Ministry for Mission

It can be followed as a stand-alone course or can lead on to further sessions. Each session will last between an hour and an hour and a half.

As we celebrate St David’s Day we are reminded of the early Christian Saints who brought the good news of Jesus to our shores. St Dyfnog Patron Saint of our Church was a follower of St David and he would have been one of the numerous Celtic Saints who established Christian Communities throughout Wales. Big Breakfast

Another ‘Big Breakfast’ is being held on Saturday March 7th, from 10:30 to 12:30 in the Chapel vestry, raising funds for the St. Dyfnog’s Well Restoration. Many of you will have been to this event in previous years and know what excellent value it is, from Angela’s home-made marmalade for the toast, to the excellent bacon that Llinos fetches specially from Corwen, all produced by Elfed in the kitchen and his band of helpers.  Do please try to attend this community event for a very worthwhile cause. We need to all pull together for this Well Restoration which will ultimately affect so many of us, from walks in the woods, to educational trips for schools and quiet times of reflection and prayer. We hope that eventually it will attract many people from pilgrims to ramblers, and be a peaceful haven for all of us.

Christmas and New Year have come and gone and it has been a delight to share our first Christmas with you all. The New Year brings with it a new beginning as we give thanks to God for the year that has ended and look forward to 2015. To read more, go to NEWS.

Candlelit Taizé Service

There will be a candlelit Grouped Parishes Taizé Service for Candlemas on Sunday February 1st at 5.00pm.

Taizé is an Ecumenical Monastic Community in France. The Taizé style of worship centres around the singing of distinctive and much-repeated prayer chants during candlelit prayer services. Taizé music highlights simple phrases, usually lines from the Psalms or other pieces of scripture, repeated or sung in canon. 

The service in Llangwyfan will last approximately 45mins. A warm welcome to all.

New vicar for St Dyfnog's

November 12^th 2014 saw a wonderful ceremony at St. Dyfnog's Church  before a packed church, the Bishop of St. Asaph, the Right Reverend Gregory K Cameron performed the Institution of the Rev. Val Rowlands as Rector of Llandyrnog and Llangwyfan and Vicar of Llanrhaeadr and Nantglyn. It was a spectacular ceremony attended by many of the clergy, churchwardens and worshippers from the four churches concerned. The whole service was impressive and took one back to the foundation of the church, with the beautiful language, inspired singing and a very thought provoking sermon preached by the Bishop. The ceremony was concluded with a buffet provided by the ladies of the four churches, an amazing spread appeared as if by magic, and was eaten with relish very little being left at the end of a most special evening.
