From the Vicar - January 2016

The 6th January sees the Feast of the Epiphany, the arrival of the wise men. Traditionally the wise men form part of the Nativity scene, but they travelled far and it is likely that arrived well after the event. It was a journey that may well have taken several years. Their journey would have taken them to unknown lands, across deserts and plains; they followed a star without knowing exactly where it was taking them. To read more, go to NEWS.

Advent calendar

The link to the Advent Calendar has now been removed. Very many thanks to all who took part - I hope you all enjoyed it. I'm delighted to say I've already had a volunteer for the next one! KM-D

Advent calendar

All the doors on the Advent calendar are now open, so you can watch any of the videos you like. The link to the calendar will remain until the evening of January 6th.

Advent Calendar

This year's Advent Calendar is available to view from December 1st, though as usual, you can't open any door before its due date (so no cheating!) You can reach it by clicking on the link above - if you can't see the words "Advent Calendar" on a red background, that will most likely be because your computer is remembering the last time you visited the church website, when the link wasn't available. Just press CTRL and F5, which will make your system go back and have another look.

All the video clips have been uploaded to YouTube, which means on the plus side that they will arrive at your computer fairly quickly, but on the minus side that you may get the odd adverts appearing. You can normally get rid of them by clicking on the "x" at the top right corner.

I haven't done this much video-editing before, so some of it is not terribly expert - apologies for that - but I hope you find it enjoyable even so. Very many thanks to all the people who agreed to take part; I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. KM-D.

AOOIC visit

On Wednesday 7^th October St Dyfnog’s Church was privileged to welcome a very eminent group of visitors. Members of The Anglican Orthodox Oriental International Commission, which is made up of Leading Church figures from Anglican and Oriental Orthodox Churches, came to see the Jesse Window and visit St Dyfnog’s Well. The Vicar, Val Rowlands, welcomed them to St Dyfnog’s, and June Hughes, Churchwarden, gave a short talk on the life of St Dyfnog and the history of the Jesse Window. The majority of the group walked up to the well and spent a short time there before leaving for Canolfan Dewi Sant in Pensarn on the next phase of their visit. Later in the day a Solemn Evensong was held in their honour at St Asaph Cathedral.

The Commission met over several days and stayed at Gladstone’s Library, Hawarden. The purpose of their meeting was to strengthen relationships between the different Churches and to discuss theological issues. They were accompanied throughout by Bishop Gregory, who is the co-chair of the AOOIC.

The sight of the glorious moon in our skies over the last few days has filled us with a sense of awe and wonder at the beauty of God’s creation. Even if you didn’t manage to get up at 3am to see the eclipse, we have been privileged to see some stunning night skies. Driving back from Denbigh last night it felt almost as if I was going to drive into the moon it was so low and so large, yet stunningly beautiful. Go to NEWS to read more.

Open Doors

A wonderful range of interesting, unusual and beautiful historic homes and buildings will be open to the public for tours and talks this September. This fascinating heritage event weekend is part of a European wide programme and brought to you by the Civic Trust for Wales, Ruthin and Denbigh Civic Society and Denbighshire County Council.

St Dyfnog’s features in this years Open Doors event, and June and Shirley will be offering tours of the church on Saturday September 26th and Sunday September 27th, at 2:00pm each day.
